Stock type 350 Chevy engine dyno te...This video shows an overall view of a dyno test. My setup uses a Lister Diesel engine for the water brake water supply. The water flows through the round handled valve on the console. This test is a downsweep meaning the engine is loaded/brought to the top test RPM then pulled down through the test RPM band, in this case 5500-3500. You see the whole test from engine off to engine off. An engine dyno is a great place for the first run of any engine even like this stock type Chevy 350. I'm not running EGT thermocouples on this test but am using an LM-1 A/F ratio datalogger, I'm starting and stopping the LM-1 log off on the left side of the console. The engine is very easy to work on when on the dyno stand and the tuning is also easy with all the information that gets recorded. After a 30 or so minute break-in period the break-in oil is drained and the filter cut open to check for unusual debris. Everyone who has dyno tested/tuned even stock type engines have been very happy with how it goes. I do plan to built a specific dyno shop someday but it has actually been good to be in the same room as the running engine because you can hear things like detonation and other engine noise.
