What is Porsche doing to me? I had just gotten over my teenage-like, eco-speed-lust with the 918 Spyder hybrid from yesterday’s announcement , and now Porsche has to go and release a video showing it actually driving? It’s not right. A man can only take so much. As if just seeing pictures of a car that can get 78 mpg yet get from 0-60 mph in 3 seconds wasn’t enough. (more…)

New Porsche 918 Spyder Concept...This mid-engined two-seater combines the performance of a super-sports car with the CO2 emissions of a small compact, an innovative plug-in hybrid concept reducing emissions to just 70 grams CO2 per kilometre and fuel consumption to 3.0 litres/100 kilometres (94 mpg imp). Within this concept Porsche combines a V8 power unit delivering more than 500 hp and three electric motors with overall output of 160 kW.
Porsche 918 Spyder...4WheelsofLux records the brand new Porsche 918 Spyder. Video shows many angles of the car, including details as well as the interior. The new 918 Spyder comes with a powerful 500 bhp V8 engine, which revs up to 9200 rpm. The 918 Spyder also accelerates from 0-100 in just 3.2 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of (198 mph). Plus, this new Porsche has some extra 218 bhp electrical power added to it. This 218 bhp comes from the two axle-mounted electric motors. The 918 Spyder is also faster than the previous Carrera GT, around the Nordschleife. However, this beast is still a concept. Porsche hopes to have it on sale in five years, with a price tag that some people could acctualy afford.

The new Porsche will allegedly net 78 miles per gallon and will retail for slightly more than the Volt, at around $650000. We're unclear as to how a 500-hp Porsche is going to get 78 mpg while a 140-hp Prius gets around 40 mpg... but hey, here's to hoping those crazy Germans know something we don't read..

Porsche Unveils Plug-In, Gets 78 MPG and 0-60 in 3.2 Seconds
[Autos]The 918 Spyder is powered by both a 500-horsepower V8 and a pair of electric motors (one for each axle) producing an additional 218 horsepower or 160kW. At full gallop, the concept can theoretically reach 62 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds and nip 198 mph on the high end.
