Ford and Geely Settle on Terms of Volvo Sale
Ford and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. have come to agreements about all major terms for the sale of the Volvo brand to Geely. Geely, based in China, plans to agree to a stock purchase in the first quarter of 2010, with the final sale completed by the year’s end. Ford had named Geely its preferred bidder for Volvo in October. Ford reiterated today that, if the sale goes through, it wants to continue cooperating with Volvo, but will not hold any shares in the company. The deal still has to be finalized by executives of the involved companies and approved by government regulatory agencies. We should have more details this spring. China's sensitivity over Tibet...China says the US has "seriously damaged" ties after President Barack Obama met the Dalai Lama at the White House. The Tibetan Spiritual leader told reporters after the event, that Obama had been supportive of his efforts to win autonomy for Tibet. In the last two years the issue become increasingly sensitive in China. Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley reports from Beijing.

US-China faceoff over Taiwan arms d...US and China havent been on great terms as of late because the Americans are sending $6.3 billion worth of arms to Taiwan - the Americans are trying to provoke China into helping them impose sanctioning Iran to try to halt Tehran's nuclear ambitions. China got really upset at the arms sale and threatened sanctions against US companies supplying the arms, suspended key military-to-military contacts, and warned Obama that his planned meeting with the Dalai Lama will further damage US-China relations.
